WHAT SHOULD I PRINT ON?

By November 17, 2022January 7th, 2024Featured, Knowledge, Tips & Tricks

As a very custom fine art production studio, this is perhaps the most common question we get on a daily basis. You’re not alone in wondering how to proceed if are exploring new materials, or if you have never printed your artwork or photography. This page should help.

"Will you look at my artwork or photos and tell me what to print on?"

We have a lot of options – well over 100 – and this can sometimes be overwhelming at first. Generally, the approach we take is collaborative, and our main goal is to help you discover what YOU want to print on, not what we want you to print on.

Above all, we cannot tell you exactly what to print on.

The materials we like, personally, may have nothing to do with what you like.

With that being said, there is hope, and we will help you.

"Will you give me your professional opinion?"

Our professional opinion is something you are more than welcome to ask for, however, please note that – most often – we will use our professional opinion and experience to help you work through material characteristics and select at least 2 or 3 options to test.

We can help you narrow things down, but you will need to make the final call on what you like. Our general approach is to help you find out what your aesthetic preferences are.

It’s important to understand that, when taking one file and printing it on multiple materials, the resulting image / print will be distinctively different from one material to the next. This is due to print variances in surfaces, coatings, white points, and a wide range of other factors.

If you are in a pinch for time, and really need us to simply make the call for you, kindly explain that to us via email or on a call, and we can make our best efforts to accommodate.

"Where should I look initially to start narrowing things down?"

These are our recommendations to help you get started:

"I still need some guidance... "

If you would like some additional guidance, no problem. Please first send us an email. Don’t send any print files via email.

Email us a basic inquiry and any questions you have about available print surfaces. You can use the blue chat icon in the bottom right corner of the window.

If you have a concise set of questions and need further assistance, you can also Schedule a Phone Consultation.

“An idea can only be materialized with the help of a medium of expression, the inherent qualities of which must be surely sensed and understood in order to become the carrier of an idea.”
